Christmas wine suggestions from CP Wines.

Here are some suggestions from our friendly wine merchant Christopher Piper Wines for everything you need to accompany a selection of traditional dishes for the big day.

We have a wide selection of wines in the shop – so pop in and choose something special this Christmas!

Start the day off with some fizz with your canapés or brunch! Champagne Gremillet Brut Reserve - Aube, Champagne, France £35. Champagne seldom fails to deliver, but if you are saving the budget for later on, or having a party, our fabulous Cremant de Loire NV £19.50 from the Penet Family in Oisly can save the day.

If you're sticking with turkey, we'd recommend either the beautiful Paul Cluver Estate Chardonnay 2019 from Elgin in South Africa £21 with aromas of fresh citrus and mineral notes with some light toasted brioche in the background.  (For a crowd, our very own Forma de Arte Chardonnay at £12.50 would also fit the bill) Or if you prefer red, a smooth, ripe classic Burgundian Pinot Noir - Bourgogne Rouge Pinot Noir 2022,  Chateau de la Charrière from Domaine Yves Girardin in Santenay £22.75 super soft, silky, ripe and rich.

If opting for roast beef then a sumptuous claret from the Pomerol region, Chateau Garraud, 2018  - £24.50 is immensely concentrated, jam-packed with super-rounded ripe blackcurrant fruit and velvety tannins . A stunning vintage that is starting to drink beautifully.

The Christmas pudding deserves Campbells Liqueur Muscat from Rutherglen, Australia (half bottle £18.75). And of course, don't forget some Port with the stilton (or just have some handy for when friends drop in!) Churchills Reserve Port £22.50.
