Meet the Fordmore Family - Dom the Butcher

We’d like to introduce you to Dom Tuckett, who has been with Fordmore Farm Shop and Café since we opened back in September 2019. Starting as our butcher, Dom is now also the shop manager, ensuring that we’re continuing to offer all of the delicious food and drink you’ve come to expect from Fordmore.

What did you do before you came to Fordmore?

I was working as the butcher at another farm shop, which I really enjoyed. But the opportunity to be involved with Fordmore from the outset was something which really intrigued me, so I took the leap and it’s been a fantastic experience being able to be part of something which has grown and developed over the last four-and-a-half years.

What do you enjoy about working here?

I really like meeting the customers and it’s great to be able to showcase all of the amazing produce we have in such close proximity to our shop. We also sell only our own beef and lamb in the butchery which comes from our own animals, all organically farmed just a few miles from the shop. It means we know the provenance of the meat and can be sure the animals are well cared for, something that is very important to us all at Fordmore.

What do you do in your spare time?

It’s mostly about the sport, playing rugby for Cullompton in the winter and then bowls in the summer. Bowls was something I started playing with my grandad and I’ve carried on with it. And, of course, spending time with my family!

If you were to recommend one item customers should try from your butcher's counter - what would it be?

For me personally it’s the steaks. From our home reared beef, they are dry aged for at least 35 days, so there’s a really good beefy depth of flavour to them.
